Notes:MFP. Awarded the 1915 Star, Victory and War Medals. First served abroad (1) France, 12/2/1915. Born Whem Nr Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Occupation prior to enlistment Policeman. Formerly Cpl. 4 South Lancashire Regt. No. 2362. He also has a further MFP 1919 No. 1347 on medal card. Wounded at Y Wood and evacuated to UK, 25/6/1915. Transferred to MFP 26/5/1917. 20/10/1917 now Sgt. posted to South Russian Force Sebastapol, Taganrog and Novorossisk. Evacuated from South Russia on HMS Iron Duke to Constantinople where he served at the Naval Base HQ at Tophane. Withdrew with Allied Forces 10/10/1923, discharged 31/10/1923. He died in his home town of Warrington 1/4/1976 and is buried in Warrington Parish Cemetery.

Citation: South Russia. Recommendation for medal from Capt. C Jones. DAPM, British Military Mission South Russia in Novorossisk for the direct award of the MSM to be made to T/Sgt. J. Moore. MFP. Since his arrival in S. Russia on the 6 November 1919, Sgt Moore served under me at Taganrog and Novorossisk, He has been responsible by force of his exceptional powers as a detective, the capacity in which he worked before the War, in lovering the number of thefts of Government stores to a very low minimum. He was always full of enthusiasm and untiring in his efforts. His manner and methods never failing to get good results.
