Extract from the Uxbridge & West Drayton Gazette 28 December 1934. Death of Mr J A Holland. - We regret to record the death, which occurred last week, of Mr James Alfred Holland, of 8 Swan Road, at the age of 45, Mr Holland who used to live at 5, High Street, Yiewsley, was the first man to enlist in the second 8th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Later he was transferred to the Highland Light Infantry and Military Foot Police, serving in Gibraltar, Egypt and France and he held the 1914-1915 Star, He was an active member of the Yiewsley and West Drayton branch of the British Legion. At the funeral at the Parish Church, conducted by the Rev. L E Prout (vicar), the principal mourners were Mr J H Holland, Mr W H Holland, Mr H E Holland (brothers) Mr W Luty Wells (brother in law). |
