W H Head, of the Military Mounted Police is reported sick in hospital, in Mesopotamia. He was formerly Police Constable at Limpsfield. Extract from the Surrey Mirror 1 February 1916. MESSAGE FROM AN OXTED CONSTABLE. Police Sergt. Boshier, of the Oxted Constabulary Station, had received a letter from P.C. Walter Head, of the Surrey County Constabulary, who was stationed at Caterham for some time and afterwards at Limpsfield, attached to the Oxsted Station. He joined the Military Mounted Police ans was at Gallipoli for some time, but is now in hospital at the Dardanelles base, suffering from the effects of a shrapnel bullet wound in the thigh, whic set up septic poisoning. His friends at Oxted and Limpsfield will be pleased to hear that he is progressing satisfactorily. He mentions that he me Lieut. Clayton Palmer (the son of a well-known Oxted resident), who at the time was on the sick list. |
