WAS BATH 'MOUNTY' - Death of Mr. F A Hawkins of Batheaston.
One of the original members of Bath Mounted Police Force and formerly well known as a police constable in the city, Mr Frederick Arthur Hawking, of Mount View, London Road, Batheaston, died on Sunday. He was 72.
After his retirement about 20 years ago, Mr Hawkins did private inquiry work and was also the tipstaff at Bath Quarter Sessions.
He served in the Boer War with the North Somerset Yeomanry and in the first world war with the 19th Hussars, later becoming a corporal in the Military Mounted Police.
For six years before he retired he was the police constable in charge of the Beacon Hill Police Station, Lansdown.
He was formerly a member of the Police Athletic Club and was in younger days, an enthusiastic cricketer.
He is survived by his wife and only daughter Mrs I J Lambert of Morris Lane, Bathford.,
