From his army record: Statement of Evidence against No. 199810 Pte. E Durrant, IWT, RE. Sir about 22.00 hrs on the 17th May 1918 I was on picquet duty in Cleopatra Street when I saw L/Cpl Hartley MFP attempt to arrest the accused. A Struggle took place and I saw that L/Cpl Hartley was bleeding from a wound on his face. I found a razor on the ground just where the struggle took place which I handed to L/Cpl Hartley. The accused must have had the razor in his hand when L/Cpl Hartley went to arrest him. Pte C W Bridges No. 40864. Also a statement from Hartley: I was in the act of apprehending a Sapper in the IWT RE when he wounded me with a razor which he previously had ready. E Hartley, L/Cpl MFP. No. 199810 Pte. T Durrant, IWT (inland water transport) RE was tried by FGCM on the 27/6/18 and convicted of committing the offence of unlawful wounding with a razor.
