Extract from the Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 22/10/1917. Presentations to Soldier Policemen.
By the fair fortunes of war three military members of the Sheffield City Police, home on leave from the front were able to meet their old comrades yesterday at the Burngreave Road Police Station, where each was presented with a luminous wristlet watch, as a mark of good will from their comrades in the force. The recipients were Corporal Henry Thomas Smith of the Coldstream Guards; Lance Corporal Arnold Morton and Lance Corporal William Fletcher, both of the Military Foot Police. All three soldiers had been at the front about two years and were granted leave about the same time. Chief Inspector Flint made the presentations, and he was supported by Inspector Burkinghaw, Sergeant Beckers, and Constables Macdougal and Thomas. A similar pleasing function took place at the Walkley Police Station, where Chief Divisional Inspector Hebb presented Lance Corporal Ellin of the Military Foot Police with a wristlet watch. Inspector Cousins also spoke.
