We congratulate Inspector George Jeffery, of the Tamworth police on his promotion to the rank of Superintendent in the Staffordshire Constabulary, which dates from October 1 next, when he will take charge of the Tettenhall Division of the county. He will be succeeded at Tamworth by Sergeant Harrington, of Whittington, who is to be raised to the position of Inspector as from October 1. Inspector Jeffery, who has been at Tamworth nearly three years, has risen rapidly in the force. He joined at Stafford in 1907. Afterwards he was stationed at West Bromwich where he remained till 1915, when he jointed the Army, serving the the Military Foot Police in Egypt and Palestine. He was mentioned in dispatches. After three years' service with the troops, he returned to West Bromwich and was raised to the rank of Sergeant. He afterwards served at Bucknall, Kidsgrove, Alton Towers and Cape Hill, Smethwick. He was promoted inspector in April, 1924. |
