AFB 122 shows that he was tried by "In the field by FGCM on the 27/1/1919, and awarded 28 days Field Punishment No.1. This casualty has never been reported to this office nor has the same been entered on the Field Casualty Sheet AFB 103, sent here from your Officer. The fact that he was sentenced to the punishment as stated above carries with it the reversion to Private. The man has been sent home as a Lance Corporal but there is no record on his AFB 103 that his appointment has been made subsequent to the sentence. Will you please arrange for the casualty to be published in your Part II Orders and forward AFB 2609 to this Officer as early as possible, to enable me to complete the man's documents. Lt/Col. Extract from the Police Review page 372, 1st September 1916. FRENCH MILITARY MEDAL. Corporal T M Dillon, of the Military Mounted Police, who, prior to joining the army was a member of the Wallasey Force, stationed at Seacombe, has been awarded the French Military Medal for bravery on the field on July 13th. The coveted devotion was pinned on the officer's breast the following day. The Corporal was wounded on April 8th last, and was in hospital in France for two months. (no record found of this award.) A former member of the Wallasey Police Force, Constable Thomas Dillon, who joined the Army in December 1915, and is now home on leave, preparatory to joining the OTC at Oxford having been recommended for a commission, is the proud wearer of the French Medaille Militaire, awarded for conspicuous gallantry and valour in the face of the enemy during the German offensive at Verdun last year. He was at the time serving in the Military Mounted Police. (no record found in London Gazette of this transfer.) |
