Decoration Record:
Decoration: Military Medal (London Gazette: 36251 Page: 5064 Nov. 18, 1943)
Citation: Military Medal Citation.SicilyOn the night of 6/7 August 1943 Lance Corporal Croft was ordered to take a jeep and wireless set to the far side of a diversion 4 miles north of the centre line on which was passing divisional transport. He came under heavy mortar and shellfire for four hours but continued to operate his wireless set. Orders came for him to get back and hold up a Brigade Column. In order to do this he was forced to pass through additional heavy fire also exploding 25 lb shells on burning ammunition lorries. This order was carried out and all columns prevented from reaching the danger area.I consider the calm and efficient manner in which this NCO carried out his orders under dangerous and arduous conditions is in keeping with the highest standards of the CMP.Awarded an immediate MM.
