Decoration Record:
Decoration: Military Medal (London Gazette: 36180 Page: 4220 Sept. 23, 1943)
Citation: Military Medal Citation.North AfricaThis acting Lance Corporal was posted by me at 1900hrs on 20 April 1943 at map referecne 635285 with instructions to police dumping of ammo by 120 3 ton lorries. At approximately 22.30 hours I received information that enemy had broken through in the area of BANANA RIDGE and were approaching the above mentioned area where the 120 vehicles were parked. I instructed A/ Corproal Quinn to escort the vehicles south of MEDJEZ-EL-BAB. Upon completion of this move at 23.45 hours he returned to an area in Square 6228 and continued to direct other vehicles out ot this area which was then under enemy fire. From 0200 hours to 1000hours on 21 April 1943 Corporal Quinn was continuously employed on the AROUSSA ROAD keeping same open for tank operational moves etc. This road was under enemy fire in the vicinity of Main Divisional HQ and Quinn kept all vehicles from entering this area. During the 15 hours continuous duty this NCO showed great courage and initiative in saving valuable vehicles from being shot up by the enemy.Between ---?--- and 1600hours on 29 April 1943 A/Corporal Quinn was on duty in the vicinity of PETER'S CORNER, map ref 706325. At 1500hours he rendered assistance to sappers of 225 Field Company RE map ref 695325 when mortarfire had killed two sappers. Shortly after this Quinn went to the assistance of tank crew 12 RTR in the vicinity of PETER'S CORNER. He found Trooper Oates dead and one wounded trooper, whom he had removed to RAP of BW (regimental aid post of the Black Watch). During this tour of duty all other units considered this road untenable and Corporal Quinn continued to carry out his duties by patrolling the road on his motorcycle between PETER'S CORNER and the TUNIS ROAD BRIDGE map reference 695625.I consider that on both occasions mentioned A/Corporal Quinn set a very high example of devotion to duty in this sector of the road by continuing placidly to peform his duty whilst the road was continously under enemy mortar fire.Awarded an immediate MM.
