Found in other documents: No. P/1328 Colour Sergeant Rashbrook, MFP states: At Havre on 11th March 1917 at about 10pm I was proceeding from the Quay Escall towards the docks in the company of Sergt. Feddy of the AOC and Sergeant Major Catley of the ASC. Sergeant Major Catley was walking between myself and Sergeant Feddy and I was on the right hand side of the road nearest the kerb. i noticed a gleam of light at my feet and shouted "look out" and jumped to the kerb. No warning of approach was given and I heard no horn sounded. The motor ambulance came from behind us, knocked Sergeant Major Catley down - he fell to the kerb - rolled over and struck his head on the kerb, I actually saw the ambulance strike CSM Catley. The ambulance made no attempt to swerve out of the way, but carried straight on. I saw the rear right hand wheel strike him on his leg and had I not jumped myself and Sgt
Feddy also, we should all three have been caught by the ambulance. I shouted out to the driver to stop but he took no notice and drove straight on. I could not distinguish the number of the ambulance or the driver. I estimated the speed at which the driver was driving at 15 mph. At the time of the accident we were walking midway between two lamps which were alight on the right hand or south side of the road and we were immediately opposite another lighted lamp on the north side of the road so that I consider there was ample light for the driver of the motor ambulance to have seen us. I consider anyone with ordinary eyesight could have seen quite 20 feet ahead, the road was in good condition and fairly dry.
Signed. W Rashbrook, C/Sgt, MFP.
The Driver was No. 11857 G Forey, BRCS
