Extract from the Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette, 9 June 1917. BATH POLICEMAN MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. His colleagues in the Bath Police Force have bee much gratified to learn that PC J Harding, of 42 Dorset Street, Twerton, now serving in France with the Military Mounted Police, was mentioned in Sir D. Haig's dispatches, published on May 30th. PC Harding's wife first gained cognisance of the fact by seeing it recorded in the list of "mentions" in the "Times" and she at once wrote to her husband enquiring why he had not appraised her of the fact, receiving the modest reply that he "didn't think it was worth mentioning." PC Harding joined up two moths after war broke out and has been in France ever since. |
