Cpl J W Haywood (late of 16 Melton road, Oakham) has been promoted to the rank of Sgt in the Military Foot Police. Sgt Haywood was a short time ago decorated by the King of the Belgians with the Belgian Military Medal, for special devotion to duty under shell fire, and was, before joining the military police, a number of years professional cricketer and gymnastic instructor at Oakham Grammar School.
