Sgt Herbert Archbell, of the Halifax Constabulary, retired fro the force yesterday on pension after 25 years service. For his service with the Military Foot Police in Egypt, Syria and Mesopotamia he received a special mention. Extract from the Halifax Evening Courier, 20/4/1953. Former Police Sergeant. The death occurred yesterday of Mr Herbert Archbell of 3 Clover Hill View, Halifax formerly a Sergeant in the Halifax Borough Police. He joined the Police Force in 1901 and was for some years in the CID. He was made Sergeant in 1919 and retired in 1926. During the 1914-1918 War he was service in the Middle East. In recent years Mr Archbell was often on Jury Service in the Coroners Court. He leaves a widow and a daughter.
