He served in the Battles of the Marne, the Aisne, Neuve Chapelle, Ypres, Loos , the Somme, Cambrai and in many later engagements in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He finished his active service at Spa, and in 1920 was still with the Military Mounted Police.
