National Roll of the Great War 1914-1918, Section IV, Southampton, page 170. Volunteering in August 1914 he was sent to India at the outbreak of hostilities and was engaged on garrison duties until 1916, when he left for Mesopotamia. After taking a prominent part in engagements in that theatre of war, including the capture of Baghdad, he was again drafted to India in the early part of 1919 and after a few moths further service was sent to England and demobilised in December of the same year.
