Awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps Belfast. Orange Free State, Laing's Nek and Relief of Ladysmith. King's South Africa Medal with clasps South Africa 1901 and 1902. Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, Army Order 377/1915. Shown in record as being awarded a Mention in Dispatches in the London Gazette 24/2/1917 but not found. Post War address: 2 Rose Cottage, Guildford Road, Frimley Green, Surrey. Became class Z reserve 12/6/1918. Same No. as Sergeant A Beard, MMP. 23/12/11 married Edith Mary Hall at Frimley, Surrey. Will you please note that instructions have been received for No. 684, Sergeant G Herson, Military Foot Police, at present attending a course of instruction, to proceed to France on the 21st instant as a witness, Field General Court Martial in the case of No. 897, Pte Ashurst, Australian Imperial Forces. Major, Officer i/c Records, Aldershot. Aldershot 19/3/18. He joined the service in May 1897, and during the recent war was engaged on special duties. He was employed attending various courts-martial in France and rendered valuable services, being mentioned in dispatches in February 1917 for his excellent work.
