Extract from the East Surrey Times 20 September 1884,
George Morrison, a private in the Coldstream Guards was charge with stealing a book, on the 8th inst. The landlord of the Royal Oak, Pirbright, said that on the 8th September, prisoner and another soldier came into his house and they left about 9p.m. Five minutes after the men had gone, prosecutor went into the parlour and missed the book now produced, which was worth 3s 6d. David Jones, Military Mounted Police, said that on Monday evening he was told of the missing book. he afterwards met prisoner and on searching him found the book now produced in his possession. P.C. 83 having given evidence the prisoner was fined £1.
