L/Cpl George Davidson, of the Military Foot Police, who returned to Pitmedden, Undy, from South Africa on Tuesday night is the second son of George Davidson, of Pitmedden and a native of Undy. He joined the 2 Gordon Highlanders in 1895. Being sent to India in 1897, passed through the Tirah campaign. There after he went to South Africa at the beginning of the war, with the 2 Gordon Highlanders and too part in the Battle of Elandslaagte, endured all the hardships and perils of the siege of Ladysmith and took part in General Bullers march through the Lydenberg mountains. Numerous as were his engagements, he passed through them unscathed. On the departure of the 2 battalion for India he joined the Military Foot Police. Cpl Davidson holds the Indian Frontier Medal with 2 clasps and the Queen's medal with four clasps for South Africa. He will also receive the King's medal for South Africa. His many friends in Undy have given the Cpl a most hearty welcome in his old home. Extract from the Aberdeen Press and Journal 5 December 1901. A GALLANT GORDON FROM UDNY.
