He was mobilised in August 1914, after previous service in the Army, and went out to the Western Front, where he remained on duty until after the Armistice. in the course of his long service he was wounded, and in consequence has to lose one of his fingers. He was demobilized in 1918, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals. (1914 Star shown on medal card).
