Inscription on private gravestone: In loving memory of Wallie, beloved husband of Florence Mewett who died in the war hospital, Epsom, July 22nd 1916 aged 34 years. Only this knowledge can our heart restore, not lost forever only gone before".Also Alex Mewett who was killed in action in France 30th June 1916, age 27, also Leonard Mewett who died 27th April 1917 aged 29 years and Florence Mewett, Dearly loved widow of Wallie, died 11th June 1950, aged 63 years. At Rest. His brother No SD/1407 Pte A G Mewett, 12 Royal Sussex Regiment is buried in Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy, Pas de Calais. France in plot IX, B,33. Widow, Mewett, Ethel Florence, husband Mewett, Walter, MFP, P/1120, widow born 23/4/87, children one, 7 Birmingham Street, Southampton, 3/1/17 pension 15/- commencing 22/1/17. Walter Mewett National Roll of the great War 1914 -1918, Section IV, Southampton, page 259. He was already in the army at the outbreak of war in August 1914 and was immediately sent to the Western Front, where he took an active part in the Battles of Mon's and Ypres. He also saw much further severe fighting until March 1916 when he was invalided home with consumption. He unfortunately died from his illness in hospital in the following July and was entitled to the Mons Star, (1915 Star on medal card) and the General Service and Victory Medals. 7 Birmingham Street, Southampton.
