The death occurred at York, after a short illness of Detective Inspector J T Whitaker of the City Force who was well know in police circles in the North of England. He was 47 years of age, and had nearly completed 26 years of service in the force. He volunteered for the Army in 1915 and served with the Military Foot Police in France until October 1918. He had been awarded the merit badge of the Royal Humane Society for life saving. (note name spelt Whitaker.) |
