Citation:   United Kingdom. MBE Citation: Maj Stewart assumed command of No1 Mil Prison and Det Barracks in its temporary accomodation in Reading Gaol in May 1946 and was responsible for its installation in Erie Camp, Headley Down. This was a period of considerable difficulty, which was further complicated by his having to take over several mutineers awaiting confirmation of sentence arising out of the Aldershot mutiny in Feb 1946. He has achieved outstanding results and by his firmness, tempered with tact, patience and sympathy, has raised the morals of the soldiers under sentence to a very satisfactory level. He has displayed zeal and devotion to duty in a marked degree. Maj-General Commander Aldershot & Hants District. Lieut-Gen C in C Southern Command.
