Extract from the Yorkshire Evening Post 19 December 1914.
LEEDS VETERAN FOR THE FRONT.
George Rowlands, pensioner, 44 years of age, who lives with his wife and family at 2, Chesapeake Street, off Meanwood Road, Leeds, has succeeded in joining the Military Mounted Police and proceeded to Aldershot to-day before being transferred to the front.
Rowlands went through the Boer War, and was wounded five times. He is employed by the Leeds Corporation. A son of Rowlands, who has been serving as a drummer at the front, only returned home last night on a short furlough.
Although he is leaving a good job, Rowlands is quite jubilant over once more being allowed to assist his King and country, and says if the young ones won't go the old ones must.
