Extract from the Western Mail, 27/9/52.
Brought home body of soldier son - it cost £130. It cost Mr and Mrs Henry Chadwick of Maeshyfryd, Dyserth, more than £130 to bring the body of their son L/Cpl Chadwick who was a national Service man attached to the Military Police, was killed while riding a motorcycle during exercise "Holdfast" exercise in Germany.
"When we heard that my son was likely to be buried in Cologne we begged the Army authorities to allow us to arrange for his body to be brought home. although my husband has been out of work for 18 months through illness I was determined that my boy would be buried in the village churchyard even if it meant selling up my home." said Mrs Chadwick.
"Ironical" L/Cpl Chadwick had only three months to serve.
"It seems ironical tqat at Christmas George would have come home alive at the expense of the Government, but they refuse to pay for the Journey." said Mr. Chadwick.
Mr Nigel Birch Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Defence, has publicly expressed his sympathy with Mr and Mrs Chadwick.
