Notes:   RMP. Died 30/5/1973. Died as a result of a traffic accident at Augher, Co Tyrone on 30/5/1973, he died with Cpl R J Roberts RMP. Sgt Lane had been a Russian Interpreter in Berlin prior to going to Northern Ireland. He had formerly served in 11 Hussars as a National Serviceman and also the Bermuda Police prior to enlisting in RMP in 1966 and posted to 7 Armd Bde Pro Unit in Hohne, Germany. Inscription on gravestone: I now to thee my country all earthly things above. Born 27/9/1939. Alistair Roderick Lane. Extract from Belfast Telegraph, 31/5/1973/ Soldiers killed in car crash. Two Soldiers attached to the Army headquarters, Lisburn, were killed last nigh when their car was involved in a headon collision with another car on the Augher Ballygawley road. They were Corporal Richard Joh Roberts (22), an Sergeant Allister Roderick Lane (34). Both died almost instantly. The driver of the other car, Ivan Stewarst, of 7 Prince Andrew Terrace, Derrygonnelly, was unhurt in the crash. The crash happened on a bend at Annahills, near Augher, the scene of another fatal crash recently.
