Mrs Stevens who is employed in the shop of Mr A Lunan, Newsagent, Aylth has received official information that her husband L/cpl James Stevens, Corps of Military Police is a prisoner of war in Japanese hands at Java Camp. Extract from the Dundee Courier, 12/7/43. HELD BY THE JAPS. Mrs Stevens, c/o Kinlock Airlie Street, Alyth, has received intimation that her husband, L/Cpl Jas. Stevens, Corps of Military Police is a prisoner at Java Camp. He was reported missing in January of this year. Before enlisting he was employed in London as a painter. He is a native of Blairgowrie. Extract from the Dundee Courier, 15/10/45. A cable saying he is safe in Australia has been received from L/Cpl James Stevens, Corps of Military Police whose wife lives at 41 Airlie Street, Alyth. He is the second son of the late Mr David Stevens, and of Mrs Stevens, 6 Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie. He was in a camp in Java. L/Cpl Stevens served his apprenticeship with Mr A S Butchart, painter, Blairgowrie and worked in London before joining up.
