Sir William Law Williams, eighth baronet, of Heanton Puncardon, whose engagement has been announced intends to make his future home at the Williams Arms, Wrafton, Braunton of which his is the licensee. His fiancee is Miss Betty Kathleen Taylor, a daughter of the late Mr John Taylor of Hitchin, Herts and Mrs J Newell Phillip and step-daughter of Mr J Newell Philip at The Haven, Mead Road, Torquay. At present living at Westcombe Cottage Braunton Sir William has plans to turn the Williams Arms, formerly the Exeter Inn into a country hotel when building restrictions are eased. He intends to take an active part in the running of the hotel, having had experience in Germany at the end of the war where he ran the Crusader Country Club for British troops. AT NORMANDY Miss Taylor was a Junior Commander in the ATS during the war and now works as a Missioner with Devonport Conservative Association. They met while both were connected with Army Welfare. The engagement took place on Sir William's 42 birthday. Sir William served during the war with he Royal Devon Yeomanry and later transferred to his old regiment the Royal Welch Fusiliers. He landed on the Normandy Beaches with the Corps of Military Police.
