East Leeds War Hospital, Leeds, Army Register of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929. James Warwick. Extract from the Fleetwood Chronicle 16 November 1915. Blackpool Roll of Honour. Blackpool Constables In H M Forces. James Warwick, Military Mounted Police. Extract from the Lancashire Evening Post 29 July 1915. BLACKPOOL CONSTABLE'S ADVICE TO WAR'S CRITICS. PC Warwick of the Blackpool Police Force, who went out to France in February for Military Mounted Police duty has written to PS Wilson, under date July 22nd. He writes that he is is still "at large" and feeling very well indeed; in fact, the simple life suits him. "Taking things all round the hardships, " he states, "are scarcely so hard as South Africa. I have seen a glowing account of the charge of the 8th Irish. I have seen one or two of the battalion and I am glad that those men who hail from Blackpool upheld the honour of the town. I went to a certain village with the intention of doing something at the grave of one our our sergeants, but I was interrupted and had to leave rather hurriedly. It is very hot at present and the flies are a pest by day and at night we are worried by mosquitos. The French policeman knows how to do it. He is always on the alert and doss point duty on a chair accompanied by his inseparable cigarette and reading "Le Petit Journal," and if the news is not interesting he may indulge in a short nap. What do you think of the Welsh coal strike. I wonder if it would make any difference if they knew what nice things the troops here say about them? Just fancy boys and woman here working in the coal mines for 10d and 1s a day! Well, we don's seem to be doing much do we? But "Come out and see." Extract from the Blackpool Times 23 November 1918. PC JAMES WARWICK. DIES IN LEEDS HOSPITAL. One of the members of the Blackpool Borough Police Force, POC James Warwick, died yesterday in Killingbeck Hospital, Leeds. He had suffered from rheumatism, he joined the Military Mounted Police on the 30th January 1915, sometime afterwards going out to France.
