Mr George Ward, 126 Lansdown Road, Sheffield, father, age 69 years. Thomas Edward Ward. Extract from the Police Review page 76, 7/3/1919. The Roll of Honour - We regret to learn that Sgt. Albert Ward, who joined the Liverpool Police (A) in 1913, has died from influenza at Marseilles, (?Egypt). An ex Territorial he was mobilized at the outbreak of war. he remained on home service till 1916, and for part of the time was in charge of the Military Police for the Woodbridge (Suffolk) District. He went to Egypt in January 1916m and was in the 5th Cavalry Division in General Allenby's great push through Palestine and Asia Minor. His father, Mr A Ward, now Chief Inspector of the Essex Weights and Measures Department was for some years a Detective officer in the Salford Borough Police, and from May 1898 to May, 1904 was Inspector of Police, Weights and Measures, and Food an Drugs, at Colchester. Sergt. Ward who leaves a widow and one child had passed through three years of campaign without injury, and but for his illness would have been returning home just about the time the sad news arrived.
