Enlisted 29/11/1915, Army Reserve 30/11/1915 to 13/6/1916, Home 14/6/1916 to 15/4/1917, BEF 16/4/1917 to 3/12/1918. Died at 35 General hospital, Calais from influenza, pneumonia. He arrived Boulogne 17/4/1917 to 5 GB Depot, Rouen, To APM Calais 19/5/1917. The following items were returned to his wife, Letters, Photo's, Pipe, Cigarette Case, Knife, Tobacco Pouch, Cap Badges, Ring, Pen. His wife and 5 children received a weekly pension of 37 shillings and 11 pence. William, 3/12/1918 died Slogrove, MFP, wife Slogrove, Ellen Bertha, born 9/8/1878, 1 Glebe Cottages, Elm Road, Warlingham, Surrey, they had 5 children: Herbert born 29/8/1905, Dorothy 31/3/1906, Leslie 7/7/1907, William born 19/8/1909 and Daisy born 29/9/1912. 30/12/1918 the mother received a grant of £10 and on 9/6/1919 a pension of 57/11 per week. As briefly announced last week L/Cpl W J Slogrove of the Military Foot Police and whose home at Glebe Cottage, Elm Road, Warlington, died from pneumonia in hospital in France on Tuesday December 3rd. He was buried in Les Barques Cemetery. He was 41 years of age and leaves a widow and five children, who have the deepest sympathy of the inhabitants of the village. The deceased joined up under the "Derby" scheme in the early days of the war, and has seen a good deal of service. (article shown photograph of L/Cpl Slogrove in uniform.)
