Extract from the Staffordshire Advertiser 29 January 1916. NEWCASTLE. The Chief Constable reported that Police Constables Arthur Dutton and Harry Royall had enlisted in the Military Mounted Police and had to report themselves on Feb. 1. The Army allotment and allowance to Mrs. Dutton would be 17s 6d. and he suggested that the difference between that and police Constable Dutton's police pay, a sum of 11s 6d should be granted. He also suggested that 5s a week would be granted to Police Constable Royall's dependents. After discussion the matter was adjourned for a month for further particulars, including details of those who had joined the force since war began and had since enlisted. At a recent meeting of the Newcastle-under-Lyne Watch Committee, the Chief Constable reported that PC's Arthur Dutton and Harry Royall had enlisted in the MMP, and had to report themselves on February 1st. The army allotment and allowance to Mrs Dutton would be 17s 6p, and he suggested that the difference between that and PC Duttons' Police pay, a sum of 11s 6d., should be granted. He also suggested that 5s a week should be granted to PC Royall's dependants. Police Review 4/2/1916 page 58.
