Info from 2 x Pension Index Card: Robert, Joseph Richard, No.P/4997, MFP, A/Sgt. 27/11/1918 died from pneumonia contracted on active service. Widow Sarah Agnes, born 24/7/1889, address 14 Leevers Lane, Winterton, Doncaster, they had one child Colin Jacklin, born 13/4/1916. 27/12/1918 she received a grant of £6, 2/6/1919 she received a pension of 22/11d per week Joseph Richard Roberts. Extract from the Lincolnshire Echo, 2/12/18. News reached Grimsby on Saturday that Sgt Roberts of the Military Foot Police who had seen much active service, and who prior to the war was in the Lincolnshire County Constabulary, and was stationed at Cleethorpes, Great Coates, and North Thoresby had died in France of pneumonia. Extract from the Hull Daily Mail, 4/12/1918. Sgt Roberts a former member of the Grimsby County Police Force, who was stationed in turn at Cleethorpes, Great Coates, an North Thoresby, contracted pneumonia in France last week and died. Deceased was a reservist, and promptly rejoined his regiment the Coldstream Guards. He was wounded and on recovery was transferred to the Military Foot Police. He was to have come home on leave November 22nd, but was seized with the complaint which caused his death on the 27th. Well known in and around Grimsby, he leaves a widow and one son.
