Police Review, page 268, 24/8/1917N E Railway Co. L/Cpl No. P/3507 William Hodgson Reed, MFP, died of wounds (gas) in France on the 19th ult. Reed, who was a single man, and close on 30 years of age at the time of his death, joined the Railway Police on October 5th 1914, and was stationed at Hull, having previously served at Leeds. He was a reliable and energetic Officer, and during the short time he was in the Force took a keen interest in Police work. When liberated to join HM Forces he enlisted in the Coldstream Guards, but was afterwards transferred to the MFP. Police Review, dated 24/8/1917, page 268. Hull Daily Mail 6/10/17. The October " NER Magazine" announces the following:- Lance Corporal W H Reed, Military Foot Police died on June 19th, from the effects of gas. He served as a member of the NER (North East Railway) Police force at Hull from October 5th 1914, to November 19th 1915, when he enlisted. When liberated to join His Majesty's Forces he enlisted in the Coldstream Guards, but was afterwards transferred to the Military Foot Police. He is one of three brothers who have fallen while serving in His Majesty's Forces.
