Citation:   Military Medal Citation. North West Europe Sergeant Simpson was commanding the section of Provost attached to 185 Infantry Brigade during the battles for KERVENHEIM and WINNEKENDONK in March 1945 and later during the advance over the RHINE to LINGEN, this NCO was responsible for signing and lighting the brigade routes and for Traffic Control. He constantly displayed courage and leadership of the highest order in carrying out these tasks, often under heavy enemy fire and during the confused fighting of the advance with complete disregard for his personal safety he advanced with the forward troops marking gaps through minefields and reconnoitring diversions for AFV's. His untiring efforts greatly assisted the advance of the Brigade. Throughout the campaign Sergeant Simpson by his courage and determined leadership has been an example not only to his section but the whole Divisional Provost Company. Awarded a periodical MM.
