Sergt. Prisoner was handed over to the civil police. PS Webster, 12 Y, said that the prisoner when charged, said he had stolen nothing. The sheets were kicking about under his feet and the soldiers told him to take them away and that he bought the boots from a soldier. Frederick George Sanders, a band boy in the Highland Light Infantry, said that the boots were given to him by an Australian and that he sold them to prisoner for 2s. 6d. Prisoner stated on oath that the sheets were given to him and that he bought the boots from Sanders. His wife corroborated. The Justices said that Sergt. Marsh had acted quite properly; but the charges had completely broken down, and would be dismissed.
