Entry in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, Volume 4, page 115. LUKE, HERBERT JOHN, L/Cpl. No. P/1522, Military Police, son of John Luke of Washaway, Co. Cornwall, Naval Pensioner by his wife Johanna, born Washaway aforesaid 18 April, 1887. Education there. Was a member of the Cornwall Constabulary. Enlisted June 1915. Served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from June 1915 and died at the 23 Casualty Clearing Station 13 April 1918 from wounds received in action two days previously. Buried in the Military Cemetery Lapugnoy. He married at Launceston, 1 Feb 1916, Gertrude Mary only daughter of John and Raphael Phare.
