He was born in Kirkinriold, enlisted in Belfast and resided in Ballymena. He died from Pneumonia at 21 Casualty Clearing Station, Army Register of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929. Inscription on gravestone: Thy will be done. His name is spelt Houston in Soldiers Died and medal card and Houstan in CWGC roll.

Joseph Houston enlisted 20/10/1914, died 14/2/1919 in France (Germany) from Broncho Pneumonia whilst on active service. 1/9/1919 Wife Mrs Annie Houston (20/5/1908 married) of Fountain Place, Ballymena, Ireland received a pension of 13/9 per week for herself and 15/10 for three children, Annie Anderson, born 21/2/1909, Sara, born 11/12/1910 and Joseph, born 3/1/1913. He also has a Pension Card showing same details.
