Since the outbreak of war the following members of the Burton Borough Police Forces have joined his Majesty's Forces. Those who have volunteered are:- P.C.s Grigg, Shelton, Nixon and Snardlow, all members of the Military Mounted Police. (article mentions other policemen in other regiments) Staffordshire. Information has been received by PC Stanway at Burton Police Station that Cpl A E Grigg, of the MMP has been killed. The latter, who was a keen sportsman and a member of the Police Cricket Club, enlisted in 1915, and had been in France ever since. He was wounded on the 7th inst and died two days later. Information has been received by PC Stanway at the Burton Police Station to the effect that Corporal E E Grigg, of the Military Mounted Police, has been killed. The deceased would be remembered as a former constable in Burton for nine years. He was a keen sportsman and a member of the Police Cricket Club. He was particularly well liked by police and civilians and recognised as a born wit. Deceased voluntarily enlisted on August 1st, 1915 and has been in France ever since. He was wounded on the 7th Inst. and died two days later. The late corporal was a native of Wolverhampton.
