He was travelling in an RAF Expeditor MK1 (a US twin engine Beech C-45) serial No. KH 483 of 233 Group Communications Flight, Air Command South East Asia, which took off from Peshawar at 10.30hrs, 7/12/1945 to Lahore for a Masonic Dinner when the aircraft struck a tree at high speed in bad visibility. At the time of the crash there were turbulent cumuliform clouds, it was raining and there was a strong wind. The signal warning of this bad weather did not reach Peshawar in time to prevent Expeditor KJ 483 taking off. (Info from RAF Historical Branch). It crashed 31 miles NNE of Jhelum. The following were also killed; Lieut W R Wicks, Indian Engineers, Maj C V M Inward, Royal West Kent Regiment, Maj F H Lewis, Royal Corps of Signals, Capt R M Booth, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, Warrant Officer (Pilot) P H Watson, RAFVR, Flight Sergeant (Navigator) A J Robertson, RAFVR. All were originally buried at Jhelum which was an RAF airstrip. 7/4/1945 Casualty Lists 1737 to 1755, Burma, Killed in Action, should be India, killed in accident.
