A Corps of Military Police dispatch rider, Pte Albert Walker, aged 34 years, of Sheffield, lost his life in a collision between his motorcycle and a lorry on Groby road, it was stated at a Leicester inquest. William Charles Snart, tyre repairer, of Brading road giving evidence under emotional strain, said "It is just like a film in my mind. I can't get it out." Snart said a lorry had crossed the other carriage-way into Brading road when Walker riding with his head down crashed into the lorry. Smart said he thought Walker did not see the lorry until it was too late. Frederick Stanley Ladkin, of St Leonard's road, Leicester, driver of the lorry, said the opposite carriage way was clear when he began to turn across it. He stopped before he crossed. The first he knew of the accident was when he felt a bump. Coroner: I can't see why you didn't see him. Mr B Avens, representing the driver, suggested there was time for the motorcyclist o appear out of the blue when Ladkin was slowing up and crossing the road. Recording a verdict of accidental death, the Coroner said there was some evidence of neglect but not, in his opinion amounting to criminal negligence.
