Notes:   CMP. POW. 18 Div Pro Coy. Enlisted in the Dorset Regiment, transferred to CMP. 3/7/42 Died. He was born in Sussex and resided in Surrey. He has no known grave. Captured Singapore 15/2/1943. Involved in the execution of officer traitor Capt P Heenan and escaped from Singapore on Motor Launch ML31 with senior officers, they were captured later. (see Story of Singapore Traitor chapter 13 by P Elphick & M Smith). He arrived back in Singapore on the 23/5/42 and died shortly afterwards. He is mentioned in File SS/330/141/269, page 56: Died of Malaria date not known, at Police Station Near Railway Station ( Maxwell Road) Penang Island Party, 3/7/1942 buried by Japanese nearby. Info from Croydon Roll of Honour: Shrimpton, Henry Rowland, born Worthing, 26/6/1918, address: 194 Woodside Green, Croydon, educated at White Horse School, employed at Peark's Store and RC Mills Ltd, Bakers. No Japanese POW Index Card Found; Casualty List 792, Malaya, Missing, 15/2/1942. Casualty List 1947, Malaya, previously posted Missing 15/2/1942 now reported Died whilst POW, previous List 792, 3/7/1942. Henry Ronald Shrimpton.
