He was captured in North Africa in 6/42 and was being transported to Italy in an Italian Ship the SS Scillin with 810 Allied prisoners when the ship was attacked by the British submarine HMS Sahib, 15 miles off Capt Bon, Tunisia. 5 other CMP died with him, namely: Grimley, Kinchin, McCarthy, Mellowes and Dodds.
