He was captured in North Africa 6/42 and was being transported to Italy in an Italian ship the SS Scillin with 810 other prisoners when the ship was attacked by the British submarine HMS Sahib, 15 miles off Cap Bon, Tunisia. 5 other CMP died with him, Dodds, Grimley, Kinchin, Mellowes and Murphy.
