Extract from the Rugby Advertiser, 11/11/41. TWO FATAL ACCIDENTS, Three People Killed and Two Injured on London Road. The victims were a 42 years old soldier, Pte. John Joseph Fitzsimons, Corps of Military Police. In the first accident which occurred at about 9.15 pm, Pte Fitzsimons was knocked down by a car when crossing the road, near the Dilke Arms, and taken to Hospital at St. Cross, Rugby. He received a fractured base of the skull, broken ankle and lacerations of the face. The driver of the car was Verdun Walter Gordon Colgrave (25), 3, Castle Street Rugby, who was driving on the dual carriageway towards Dunchurch
