Notes:   CMP. Enlisted in to CMP. He was born and resided in Glasgow. Casualty List 589, Home, died result of accident, 29/7/1941. Inscription on family gravestone, badly worn and displaced. Inscription on stone below other family, Their son L/Cpl, Hugh Carmichael, CMP, beloved husband of Janet Finlayson who died 29/7/1941, age 22. Erected by Nurse McClachan. Hugh Carmichael. Information from Mr R MacGillivray, Glasgow. On February 2 1940 Hug married Janet Finlayson by declaration in Glasgow. According to the marriage certificate he was a L/Cpl in the CMP, previously a restaurant cook and resident of Glasgow. He was 20 years old and Janet was 25 years old and a restaurant waitress. Hugh was killed after a collision with a bus at Larbert Viaduct whilst riding a motorcycle. The traffic on the main Stirling to Falkirk Road went under this viaduct but there were blind spots. Not long after this accident traffic lights were erected to solve the problem. Hugh suffered multiple injuries in the accident and died at 4am on 29/7/1941 at the Base Hospital, Larbert, then Stirling & district Mental Hospital, now Bellsdyke Hospital. Hugh's usual residence was given as 172 Baldwin Avenue, Glasgow. On his death certificate he is described as a Chef.
