Extract from the Litchfield Mercury, 1/6/45. PRISONER OF WAR FOR FIVE YEARS, LICHFIELD LANCE CORPORAL DIES IN GERMANY AFTER RELEASE. Mrs C H Blood of "Sylvian" Burton Old Road, Lichfield has received the very sad information from the War Office that her husband L/Cpl Cyril Blood, Corps of Military Police, died from dysentery in the course of a journey by road across Germany from the camp in which he was held. It is understood that he died on 9th April at Halberstadt and was buried in the civilian cemetery there the following day. L/Cpl Blood who has been a prisoner of war since July 1940 was well known in Lichfield where he lived most of his life. He was in civil life an AA road scout. As a reservist he was called to the colours, two days before the outbreak of war and a fortnight later went out to "France" in the Military Police. L/Cpl Blood who at the time of his death was forty years of age was the elder son of the late Mr W Blood and Mrs Blood, of 9, Paradise, Lichfield. (article has small inset picture of L/Cpl Blood in AA uniform.)
