His brother Walter Murdoch No. 240435 Pte 1/5 King's Own Scottish Borderers who died 2/8/1918 age 26 and is buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France. Extract from the Dumfries & Galloway Standard, 21/8/1918. Two Brothers Killed. Official information has been received by Mr D Murdoch, Blenkins, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie from the record office at Hamilton, that his grandson, Private Water Murdoch 1/5 KOSB was wounded in action in the chest in July, and died in the Australian Hospital, Rouen on August 2. This is the second grandson who has been killed within a few months, and much sympathy is felt for the sorrowing family. Pte Walter Murdoch joined the 1/5 KOSB at the beginning of the war, and trained with the Territorials at Dumfries and Banockburn. He saw much hard service at Gallipoli and Palestine, and was drafted to France in April of this year. Pte Murdoch was educated in school and was afterwards employed as a farm servant and served with many farmers in the district, and on joining was at the Grange, in Tundergarth. The other grandson was L/Cpl William Murdoch of the Suffolk Regiment, who was killed in France in May 1918. Before the war Pte Murdoch, was a member of the metropolitan Police Force, London and enlisted into the Military Foot Police in January 1917. He was drafted to France in April 1917, and was stationed at Le havre docks. At the beginning of the big push he was transferred to the Suffolk Regiment.
