A member of the Corps of Military Police serving with a Chindit force, Lance Corporal Eric Baker, died in a British Military Hospital in Cocanada, India, of cerebral malaria. His wife Mrs Hilda Barker of Honister, , Bradley Lane, Eccleston has been officially informed. L/Cpl Barker who was 35, joined the Army in 1943. A builder by trade, he served as a special constable during the early part of the war. He was a member of the Eccleston Methodist Church and Sunday School.
