MMP. 16/1/58 he enlisted in the 3 Foot (later East Kent Regiment) age 17 years, occupation Labourer, born Woolton, Nr Canterbury, Kent. 1/7/61 he transferred to the 3 Dragon Guards No. 695 1/8/77 transferred to the MMP. 27/1/80 discharged time expired, address: Selstead, Nr Canterbury. He was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. Served India 3.3.years, Abbyssinia 4 months. His real name was George Shropshall but served under the alias George Shrubsole. From his discharge document: his name appears twice in the Regimental Defaulters Book, in addition to which he has once tried by Court Martial.
